In what is certain to be the most memorable race of the season, the Indy Road Winged Tour took to the legendary, formerly brick, rectangle of Indianapolis. Zach was quick in Q, starting 4th. Tim started towards the back opting for a more conservative run. The first half of the race saw many wrecks and jumbled up restarts that made a yahtzee roll look tame.
Halfway through the race with most of the wreckers out of the field, the race saw its longest green flag run that even included a pit stop. Stops had cycled through with Zach and Tim nose to tail in 7th and 8th respectively. Tragedy struck with 9 to go when Tim lost the nose behind another car and with a lap car on his outside, the two collided, ending Tim's night and setting up a scramble to the finish.
Zach restarted in 5th and after fending off a charge from the 6th place car had a run down the front stretch with 2 to go. Near calamity on the exit of turn 1 when the 3rd and 4th place cars smashed into each other. Zach drove the #4 ALDI/Clancy Up car around the incident in one piece to take 3rd place as the field paced under the caution that would end the race.
In what was one of the most bizarre turns of events all season, the top 2 finishers took the checkered and drove around the pace car. They then entered the pits and were black flagged. Since the race was over, they were sent to the tail end of the lead lap. As they were loading up, the announcement was made over the legendary Indianapolis PA by Allen Bestwick that Zach was declared the victor. His first win since November 12th, 2018 in the Tour Modified at South Boston. The win moves Zach into 6th place in the Division 3 season standings!
